In this mornings Daily Mirror they run with a story of a man suffering with colon and liver cancer, that has taken to drinking his daughters breast milk on his cornflakes, in an effort to cure the illness. Admittedly scans have indicated that the cancer has reduced, but don't you find this a little weird?

There are a number of taboos about breast milk one in particular is how long a mother should continue to breast feed. It seems socially expectable to feed a baby, admittedly out of sight, but once over the weaning age it causes problems with ones comfortable acceptance.

yes, this a controversial subject among breast feeding mothers, there are many who get annoyed at having to hide themselves from public view and many people actually find it offensive to have a mother breast feeding in public, but again this comes down to our perceptions about breasts, we see them as purely sexual which is why we see older children being breast fed completely taboo ( I admit to finding this difficult to accept) we see it as cringingly wrong once a child passes from baby to child

If its going to help you then I am all for it as wendlane says it is because of the link to sex that people find it weird. If science proved that it was a cure then we would drink it by the gallon.

For a progressive nation we still have a lot of taboos

Yes. Why not Shredded Wheat? Far better than cornflakes clogging hour system up.

Yeah I saw this yesterday and imagined folk being [insert emotion here] about it. It's something I hadn't heard about before. Very interesting indeed. Our bodies can heal each other if we can just get over the stigma? Strengthens my faith a tad.

Who cares if it works.

It would be weird if he was drinking from the breast, but I don't think it is odd to drink it if it helps him at all x

I'm with BDA - it's not like he's taking it direct from the source. I don't find it uncomfortable but yes, it's weird.
Having said that, if I had cancer and someone told me that would help, I think I'd try it! -

It's funny isn't it that we even think about this as a subject of controversy when we freely drink milk from other animals and yet can't contemplate drinking our own human milk!
I guess it would be difficult to find a source of human milk as it is reserved for babies and not for adults, there would never be enough to go round
I must admit I have never heard of human milk being a possible source of cancer fighting goodness, but then it does contain a lot of nutrients and illness fighting goodies for babies -

Assuming that it's expressed breast milk, no...
I don't find it weird, and it doesn't make me feel uncomfortable...

I am in agreement with Ruby on this one.

One point not mentioned yet: no-one has demonstrated that the milk is what has caused his improvement...

yes
it does make me feel uncomfortable but I feel it's about our perception of drinking breast milk, if it is helping him get well then why not? is it because in our society breasts are perceived as purely sexual when in fact they are nurturing and life giving, I understand why you and I feel that way but it's this society's views more than nature that is to blame in my opinion. particularly as it is his daughter, would we feel differently if it was his wife?
