Tonight my wife called little girl a 'pillock', for which she apologised. This lead to us looking up the word origin considering it is now a term for someone 'a bit lacking in cerebral understanding'.
I was quite surprised to found it was an Old English word bought back into use through 'Till Death us do Part'. The actual word has its roots in the Norwegian; 'pill' and/or Danish; 'piller', meaning penis combined with the Southern English slang word 'cock', also meaning penis which comes from German.
We were all surprised, there was me thinking is was a small fish....

Phew! I'm glad I've been using it in the right context as it seems so apt so often!
