Like most hospitals the NHS has seen better days and is suffering for it. What seemed like a fantastic idea 60 years ago to allow quality health care for one and all seems to have lost its way.
Now run more like a business with top-heavy management systems and poor overworked lower tiers, I think it needs to be severely overhauled to last another 10 years, let alone 60.
So what would I do?
* Get rid of the dead wood consultants and senior management teams that drain the funding.
* Bring back Matron and her 'coalface' management.
* Pay the 'real' workers a respectable wage and boost morale.
* Eliminate 'postcode' treatment policies.
* Allow flexibility of treatment so that partial funding of private treatment can be attained.
* Open more local 'cottage' hospitals so that elderly patents can be treated nearer to home.
* Curtail the penny pinching policies that NICE employ
* Charge for treatment where illnesses are self inflicted i.e. smoking or drink related.
Can you think of anything else to add?
