America is up in arms because they are paying $4.00 for a gallon(US) for petrol (gas). This would equate to 54p a litre, under half the price of the UK.Little did I know, but the main gripe was that the price has gone up 31% since last year. So last year they were only paying 37p a litre, a third of the price we did.

Yep, it is about time Americans saw the end of cheap gas and started getting serious about public transport. But the downside of that is that in the US, virtually nothing is within walking distance of home (unless you live in a huge city like NYC), so those bus rides are going to be pricey, too.
