This morning I discovered that the BBC bankrolls the Eurovision Song Contest with British tax payers money. I therefore submitted an e-petition on the Government website for which I am awaiting confirmation. Most of the short names appeared to be blocked (Eurovision, Song Contest etc) so I had to call it Boombangabang. I will update if it is excepted so bloggers who feel the same way can add their names.

It's misleading to say the BBC "bankrolls" Eurovision. They are merely one of the contributors to the cost of the event.
I don't watch it myself, but it seems to be pretty popular and a reasonable use for a tiny fraction of the licence fee. I object to the licence fee itself on principle, but this minute fraction of it being spent in this way doesn't bother me in the slightest.
Cheers, Tom.-

Correct - one of only four contributors. But with all those countries taking part is it condescending for four countries to act as a clique of financial hosts as if they are 'old Europe' and therefore somehow better? And is it right for all the other countries to accept this hand-out without so much as a whimper of complaint, like so many teenage oiks?

No, it isn't.
And yes, it is.
