Today I signed up as a volunteer for our local radio station Seahaven FM as part of the admin team. So I aim to blog about the experience now and again.
The DJ on at the moment is Big Brother star Eugene Sully playing hits from the 60/70/80s

Yes only working for the radio station Saturdays 9-1
That sounds like a great fun thing to do! I volunteer one day a week on admin with a small newspaper. Love it. :-)
That sounds good, good luck with it all.
That sounds like fun. I think I would like working with Eugene.
I don't get it. What is an "admin team"? Here in the US, it would mean administration, which is the boss, who works full time and gets paid. Why would anyone want to volunteer for something like that? I know people volunteer to be on the air just for the fun of it, which is one reason why I no longer work in radio... they could replace me at less than a living wage. Is this public radio?
In Britain with have Government sponsored radio (the BBC), Commercial Radio and community radio. At the moment there are no more licenses for Commercial Radio stations where I live but there is a need for a 'local' station that deals with our small community (about 30,000 residents). To get a community license we have to have on air experience but you can't be on air without a license (catch 22). We can however broadcast via the internet and for 2 months of the year via FM.
At a public meeting we decided that a local station was necessary and to get it off the ground required a number of volunteers to show it could work commercially.
The 'admin' work I refer to is manning the telephone lines and internet e-mail, ringing around sponsors, and booking guests to come in to the studio to talk about local things (events services etc).
I will 'give up' 4 hours this morning to man the phones and do my little something for our local community.
